When it comes to Android phone, Samsung Electronics is the world-class leader with featured phones like Samsung Galaxy S, Samsung Galaxy S II and newly released Samsung Galaxy Note.  The Samsung Galaxy Note and Samsung Galaxy S are of the popular Galaxy smartphone family.

The Samsung Galaxy Note was announced during the IFA event which was held in Germany on September 2, 2011 and its official released is expected in November 2011 with a roll out plan stretch in various countries of Europe. In India it’s slated to be released on November 2, 2011. The Galaxy S II phone was announced in February 2011 and released in the Mid 2011 and as of now 30 millions of S & S II phones have been sold.
Here we go through the comparison of Galaxy S II with Samsung Galaxy Note with the technical specifications and features wise -

Form Factor & Make
The Samsung Galaxy Note is 5.78 tall and 3.26 inches wide. It’s the first device which is larger than a normal smartphone and smaller than a 7 inches tablet. Whereas when you come to Galaxy S II it has 4.9 inches height and 2.6 inches width. Galaxy S II has the thickness of 0.33 inches whereas Galaxy note has 0.38 inches. Galaxy Note weights 178 grams as compared to Galaxy S II at 116 grams only. Comparatively Galaxy S II is smaller, thinner and even lighter than the Galaxy Note.

The Samsung Galaxy Note runs on the dual core 1.4 GHz ARM Cortex A9 processor and its ideal platform for it. The same processor has been used to power Galaxy S II phone but it’s clocked at 1.2 GHz a little slower and the processor is from Exynos. Both the phone gets graphical acceleration through the Mali 400 MP GPU. So in comparison Galaxy Note is higher as expected.

Both the phones uses the same technology i.e., the Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display for which the Samsung has got critical acclaim though the display of Galaxy Note is on the larger side which stands at 5.3 inches in height providing 285 ppi pixel density and with a maximum resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels. When you come to Galaxy S II, it has 4.3 inches Gorilla Glass display with maximum resolution of 800 x 480 pixels at 217 ppi pixel density.
Both the phones have Gorilla Glass display with multi-touch input method provided with various sensor technologies like accelerometer for auto rotate, proximity sensor and gyroscope.

Camera

When it comes to camera included in the both the phones, Galaxy Note and Galaxy S II have the same specifications with 8 mega pixel rear side camera and 2 mega pixel front facing camera from the same manufacturer i.e., Samsung Electronics. It can also record HD videos at 1080p at 30 fps. Both the phones are have LED flash, autofocus and features geo tagging, touch focus, face and smile detection and image stabilization.

Operating System & User Interface

Both Galaxy Note and S II are powered with Google Android operating system and then use the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update. Though the Android 4.0 update has been introduced in the market with the launch of Galaxy Nexus mobile phone by Google recently, The Galaxy Note and the Galaxy S II phones from Samsung are the front contenders for the Ice Cream Sandwich update. We are just eagerly waiting for that, and as soon as those arrive we would be the first to publish those firmware update tutorials.
Both the phones have TouchWiz 4.0 user interface which has some of the redefined interface features when compared with the previous version of 3.0. The same TouchWiz 4.0 is overlaid on to Samsung Galaxy Note as well.

Data Connectivity
Since the manufacturer of both the mobile is Samsung and both the devices were released in the same year there is not much difference with the data connectivity options. Both, Galaxy S II and Galaxy Note has the option of 3G, includes Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, DLNA sharing, Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth 3.0 wireless file transfer, microUSB, USB on the go and last but not the least GPRS with EDGE technology is always there.
The Wi-Fi Direct option that we discussed of Samsung Galaxy S II with which you can transfer 5 MB of file without any processing and so 700 MB movie can be transfer within 5 minutes using it wirelessly. The same technology is present on Samsung Galaxy Note and it’s the third device after Galaxy S II and Galaxy Nexus.

Memory
The Galaxy S II comes with 1 GB of RAM and two variants of 16 GB and 32 GB as the internal storage capacity. The Galaxy Note also has 1 GB of Ram and comes with 16 GB of internal storage capacity. However with Galaxy Note you can extend its memory up to 32 GB using the micro SD card.

Battery
The Samsung Galaxy S II is powered with Li-ion 1650 mAh battery which provides 610 hours of battery backup during 3G standby and a talk time of up to 9 hours in 3G mode. When coming to Galaxy Note as it has larger screen, it’s powered with standard Li-ion 2500 mAh battery which would offer almost the same battery life.

Price
Generally if you compare the price of Galaxy Note with Galaxy S II, Galaxy Note is priced higher at 25 to 35 percents than the price of Galaxy S II. In India you get Galaxy S II at Rs 30,000 and Galaxy Note is priced higher than Rs 40,000.
Conclusion
Definitely Samsung Galaxy Note introduces lot new features. The most notable one is the so-called feature of S Pen. It’s completely different from existing stylus and it can perform lot more things in particular. It would also introduce the Samsung ChatON mobile messenger services along with the Samsung hub.
If you have bought Galaxy S II or thinking to buy, then we at Android Advices suggests you to go with Samsung Galaxy Note (if you feel 5.3 inches feels good) because it has got better hardware.
